5 Great Free Clipart Websites

When you are working on a digital project, the introduction of high quality photographs, images, or clipart can make your work look much more attractive to the reader.  Images must be well placed and carefully selected so that they will compliment the message content.  Below you will find references to 5 great free websites to obtain high quality digital art and images to add to any project.  Even though the sites are generally free, please read their terms and usage before using the clipart.  All sites are free of pop ups and are safe for children.

 1.  http://openclipart.org/

This is a library of clipart and is created by a large community of clipart contibuters. All clipart is released to the public domain and can be used for free.  You can find vector graphics here.  This is an easily navigateable and high quality site.  Has a search feature.  A great choice if you are starting your clipart search.

 2.  http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/images/

This is Microsoft’s gallery of clipart, images, illustrations, photos and sounds.  A lot of time can be spent here browsing through all the 1000’s of images.  This is another excellent source to find clipart and images.  When looking for clipart on this site it seems easiest to use the search feature to find what you are looking for.  A search for the keyword “apple” returns about 400 images in all – including animated ones.

 3.  https://www.google.com/imghp

If you do a “Google Image” search you are sure to find something that will meet your needs in most instances.  Click the link above and use a keyword to search for the clipart you are looking for.  You can use just the subject alone like “apple”, or, if you are looking for clipart specifically (and not regular photo images) you can try the keyword “apple clipart” to narrow down your search.  “Google Images” has been around for a long time and links to images available across all different types of websites.  Be sure to read the websites terms for any website you get an image from.

The Public Domain clipart site is a very simple site with lots of good free clipart.  Searching is probably the easiest way to find what you are looking for on this site but you can also use a drill approach by first selecting the main category and then choosing a subcategory.  Overall this is a clean site with lots of images to choose from.

5.  http://www.wpclipart.com/

With a uniquely designed them – this site was designed originally for educational use for children to use in school projects.  The author has put great care and research into the site to ensure that all clipart is truly free to use.  The site has a search engine but you can also browse the clipart collection.  While the number of photos available isn’t as large as some of the other sites, there is a lot of good clipart here.  Take a bit of time to browse around.
